NEW YORK (AP) -- A transit impostor with nearly 30 arrests is being sentenced this month in New York for his most recent crime.
But Darius McCollum hopes this time it will be different. The 49-year-old says he is volunteering to do therapy to help him with impulse control problems. He was diagnosed with what was recently called Asperger's syndrome but is now considered an autism spectrum disorder.
His lawyer says they have worked out a deal with prosecutors where he will face 2 ½ to five years instead of 15 years. He will go into therapy when he gets out. He was last arrested in 2010.
McCollum is expected to be sentenced Thursday. He first made headlines at 15 when he drove a train six stops and no passengers or transit workers noticed.
