PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A 44-year-old Cranston man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for participating in an international conspiracy to import and distribute prescription drugs and steroids.
Rhode Island's U.S. Attorney said Wednesday Patrick Cunningham was sentenced in Providence. He pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to distribute steroids and distribution of a misbranded drug.
A co-defendant in the case, 54-year-old Edmond Paolucci of Coventry was sentenced in April to 33 months in prison.
Authorities say the men admitted taking part in a conspiracy to import misbranded prescription drugs, pills and injectable drugs. The products were shipped from Israel, Turkey and Bulgaria to postal boxes in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Through co-conspirators including Cunningham, Paolucci used an underground laboratory to repackage the drugs, which were then shipped to customers in the U.S.
