BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors in Birmingham say the former CEO of a produce company will serve more than a year in prison on tax and fraud charges.
Prosecutors say a judge on Tuesday sentenced former Adams Produce Company CEO Scott David Grinstead to serve a year and four months in prison. He was charged with fraud against the company, failure to report a felony against the government and failure to file income tax returns.
Grinstead pleaded guilty in April. His plea agreement with prosecutors included an agreement to pay $450,000 in restitution to the company's bankruptcy estate to benefit company employees who weren't paid when the company filed for bankruptcy last year.
Three other company officials have pleaded guilty in connection with a scheme to overcharge the government for fruits and vegetables.
