3 men from UK sentenced for investment fraud

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A federal judge in Florida has sentenced three British men to federal prison for their roles in an international investment fraud and money laundering scheme.

U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven sentenced the men on Tuesday.

Officials say from July 2004 through at least March 13, 2008, the trio and others engaged in an investment fraud and money laundering scheme, in which worthless stock in hijacked dormant, publicly-traded companies in the United States was sold to victim-investors, primarily in the United Kingdom.

The victims wired more than $127 million to bank accounts in the Middle District of Florida.

Sentenced were Paul Robert Gunter, Simon Andrew Odoni and Richard Sinclair Pope.
